Senior day care in Gurgaon: a guide for working families

If your parent spends long weekdays alone while you're at work, day care can give them company, routine and care, and give you peace of mind.

Many families in Gurgaon live the same weekday: you leave for work at 9, get home after 7, and your parent spends the hours in between alone or with a part-time helper. They may be safe, but the days are long, quiet and often unstructured. Senior day care is built for exactly this gap.

What senior day care is, and what it isn't

Senior day care is a supervised daytime programme. Your parent arrives in the morning or evening, spends a few hours with other seniors and trained caregivers, and goes home to sleep in their own bed. A good centre combines company, gentle activity, meals and basic health checks.

It is not a hospital or a nursing home. It suits seniors who can travel, with help if needed, and who enjoy or would benefit from company. People who need round-the-clock nursing are usually better served by assisted living or home nursing.

Signs day care could help your parent

  • They seem lonely, bored or low, or spend most of the day in front of the TV.
  • Meals are skipped or irregular when no one is home.
  • Medicines are forgotten or taken at the wrong time.
  • They have early memory changes and do better with routine.
  • You worry about falls or emergencies while you are at work.
  • You, or their caregiver, are tired and need regular breaks.

What to look for in a day care centre

Visit before you decide, ideally during a session. These questions separate a caring centre from a waiting room:

  • Is a nurse on site during every session? Ask who handles a fall, a drop in blood sugar or chest pain.
  • Are vitals checked on arrival? Blood pressure, pulse and oxygen readings catch problems early.
  • What is the caregiver to senior ratio? Seniors who need help with toileting or memory need a smaller group per caregiver.
  • How far is the nearest hospital, and what is the emergency plan?
  • Can meals match your parent's diet? Diabetic, soft-food and Jain options matter.
  • Is transport escorted? A driver alone is not enough for most seniors.
  • How will you hear about their day? A daily message or photo update is reassuring for working families.
  • Can you try a session first? A trial tells you more than any brochure.

What senior day care costs in Gurgaon

Centres usually charge either per visit or as a monthly plan, with meals and transport priced separately. Monthly plans cost much less per day if your parent comes most weekdays. As an example, Omsorg's 2026 rates (plus taxes as applicable) are:

  • Social: ₹349 a half-day visit, or ₹4,999 a month for weekday half days.
  • Care: ₹699 a half-day visit, ₹10,999 a month for weekday half days, or ₹22,999 a month for weekday full days.
  • Care Plus: ₹999 a half-day visit, ₹14,999 a month for weekday half days, or ₹29,999 a month for weekday full days.

Add ₹149 for a meal on half days, or ₹2,799 a month for 22 meals. Escorted pick-up and drop within 4 km is ₹449 a round trip, or ₹7,999 a month. You can work out your own monthly figure with our day care planner.

Helping your parent settle in

  • Start small. Two or three half days a week is easier than five full days at once.
  • Go together the first time. Stay for the first hour if it helps.
  • Share their routine. Tell the team about favourite foods, music, prayers and what upsets them.
  • Call it by a friendly name. Some seniors respond better to "the club" or "the centre" than "day care".
  • Give it three weeks. Most seniors need a few weeks before the new routine feels normal.

Day care, home care or assisted living?

Day care works when your parent is safe at home overnight and mainly needs company, structure and supervision during the day. If nights are becoming unsafe, or care needs are growing, compare the options in our guide to assisted living vs home care. Many families use day care first and move to a short stay or assisted living later, when the time is right.

Frequently asked questions

Can my parent go to day care with early dementia?

Usually, yes. Routine and company often help. Ask whether the centre has a plan for memory support and a smaller caregiver ratio; at Omsorg that is the Care Plus plan.

Will someone give my parent their medicines?

This varies by centre. At Omsorg, the nurse gives medicines on the Care Plus plan. Send them in their original packaging with the prescription.

What if my parent doesn't like it?

That is why a trial matters. If the first visit goes badly, try a different session or a shorter day before deciding.
